Preschool Teacher

I have a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Hawaii, and I am currently working on a Master of Teaching from the University of the Cumberlands. I have taught many ages and subjects, from preschool through college students, but preschool is clearly my favorite! I love learning alongside children and being able to help them form a classroom community is such a rewarding experience for me. I love progressive education and being given the space to be a creative person within my teaching practice has been so fulfilling. I am a huge believer in play-based education and I find joy and creativity in my work each day.

I found Virginia Chance School in 2014 when my husband Eric proposed we consider moving from Hawaii (where I am from) to Louisville to be closer to his family. We visited Louisville, and after touring the school for our then two-year-old, I told my husband, "I would move to Kentucky for this school." The philosophy and mission of the school spoke to who I wanted to be as a teacher and what I wanted in a school for my own child. Our daughter, Matoki, attended VCS from the 2s through 5th grade and is a proud Chance graduate.

One of my very favorite parts of being at VCS is the amazing outdoor campus. There is so much wonder and so much to discover when we spend time in nature.  In my time outside of school, I love to sew, bake, read, make art, take TRX classes, play board games, and snuggle with my dog, Benny.
