I have a Masters in Elementary Education from Bellarmine University and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the University of Louisville. I was first introduced to Virginia Chance School in 2000. I observed in the elementary classrooms during my time at Bellarmine and did my student teaching in the Primary classroom. I fell in love with Chance, and it’s philosophy. It felt refreshing to find a school whose philosophy matched mine.
I started teaching at VCS in 2004 in the K1 classroom. I taught K/1 for two years and then moved to Primary 2/3, which has been my home ever since. I love being a part of a school that is progressive in it’s thinking and allows teachers to guide and teach the whole child. Students are provided direct instruction on social/emotional topics such as growth mindset, perseverance, grit, and empathy. I love that students are invested in their learning at Virginia Chance School. VCS encourages and supports creativity, curiosity, collaboration, and discovery. I love its beautiful campus that allows for exploration in our outdoor classrooms, paths through the woods, natural playground, and greenhouse. I love the community that is fostered within our classroom and with our VCS families.
My husband Bryan and I have three children, Avery (14), Addison (11), and Jude (8). We feel very fortunate that all of our children had their start at Virginia Chance School. We also have two dogs (Winnie and Archie) and a cat (Fitz). Spending time with my family is my favorite pastime. I enjoy watching my children playing sports, vacationing together, sitting around a campfire, going to the lake, and walking our dogs. When I have a quiet moment, you can find me reading, crafting, or enjoying a good movie.
